You know how they always say it’s better to be safe then sorry? Well Hurricane Season is here and it’s definitely always better to be safe and one step ahead of the storm, then sorry and waiting until last minute to get your family and home protected. We at Vantage Point want to help make it just a little bit easier by providing you with some tips and links to resources to help you be as ready as you can be for the 2012 season.
Protect your home:
Hurricanes cause heavy rains that can cause extensive flood damage in coastal and inland areas. Everyone is at risk and should consider flood insurance protection. Flood insurance is the only way to financially protect your property from flood damage. To learn more about your flooding risk and how to protect yourself, visit the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (NFIP) Web site,www.floodsmart.gov or call 1-800-427-2419. For more detailed information on how you can protect your property, view NFIP’s printer-friendly handout
Hurricane Safety Kit:
Try to assemble your kit well in advance of an emergency. You may have to evacuate at a moment’s notice and take essentials with you. You will probably not have time to search for the supplies you need or shop for them.
Have a Plan ready:
Your family may not be together when a disaster strikes so it is important to plan in advance: how you will get to a safe place; how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.
